Paul Mattingly of the River Basin Blues Society discusses the 2nd Annual Burdette Blues Festival Saturday, June 3 at 1 PM ($5) at Burdette Park to benefit the River Basin Blues Society and the Vanderburgh County Special Olympics. We also talk about the local blues scene in Evansville and some of Paul's favorite local bands.
The 2nd Annual Burdette Blues Festival is co-sponsored by the River Basin Blues Society and the Vanderburgh County Special Olympics. The event is a fundraiser for both organizations. The gates will open at 1 pm with opening ceremonies at 1:30 pm. The music will begin at 2 pm. General admission for the event will be $5.00. There will be BBQ, food trucks, and fun for the whole family. The full beverage provider will be Lamasco Bar & Grill. The stage production will be provided by Tri-State Sound & Light.
The music will kick off at 2 pm with Ryan Rigdon and the Primal Roots. At 4 pm Paul Blake and the Pallbearers will play cuts from their new release, Hungover and Heartbroken. The Gough/Martin Blues Band takes the stage at 6 pm. This group is out of South Union, KY, and features Michael Gough (vocals, bass), John Martin (guitar), Patrick Preston (keys), and Gerry Smoot (drums). At 8 pm, Shaun Murphy brings her talent to the tristate! Shaun Murphy started her career with Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band. She has toured with Eric Clapton and was the lead singer with Little Feat for many years. Shaun is on tour promoting her new release It Won’t Stop Raining. Local guitarist Tommy Stillwell is on tour with Shaun for the summer festival season.
The 2nd Annual Burdette Blues Festival supports the efforts of two worthwhile organizations and continues the great tradition of blues music in the tristate.
